Caltrans crews to scale rocks tomorrow as part of Hwy 1 clean up at Alder Creek

Caltrans says work to remove debris from Highway 1 near Alder Creek will begin tomorrow.

That portion of Highway 1 in Monterey County has been shut down for more than a week after a rockslide crashed down on the roadway.

Crews are expected to scale the rocks near the slide Tuesday, and then helicopters will bring in equipment to remove the rocks.

Caltrans says it hopes to have the roadway reopened in about four to six weeks.
