THROUGH MARCH 31: A major repair project shuts down Hwy 135 between Orcutt and Los Alamos.
Caltrans begins roadwork on that highway Wednesday, to replace drainage pipes under the highway. Those pipes collapsed in last month's heavy winter storm. The roadwork will keep Hwy 135 closed in both directions until the project is complete at the end of March.
Caltrans recommends southbound drivers to use a detour via Hwy 1 to San Antonio Rd. East. Northbound drivers are advised to use Hwy 1 or Hwy 101 as a detour.
Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol plans to have electronic message boards and road signs up to let drivers know about the road closure and detours.
