Recent Templeton High School graduate Savannah Camacho finished eighth in the 800 meter run at the USA Junior Championships on Saturday. Camacho qualified for the finals of the event on Friday. She was eighth out of eight runners in the final. The Junior Nationals are being held in Bloomington, Indiana.
Camacho finished in 2:11.74, the winner, Ajee Wilson clocked a time of 2:04.86. The top four finishers qualified for the World Junior Championships next month in Spain. Camacho was three seconds from a fourth place finish.
The Junior Nationals are for athletes 19 years old and younger. Two of the competitors in Camacho's race just finished their freshman years of college.
Camacho will run for Oklahoma State starting in the fall.
