A truck is firebombed and it's all caught on camera. Now, investigators hope they can catch the criminal behind it. The truck fire happened in Nipomo and Cal Fire is calling it suspicious as well.
It happened in the Maria Vista Estates around 3:30 this morning.
It's a housing development still under construction in the 700 block of Vista Del Rio.
The truck belongs to the project manager. He has cameras throughout the housing development and construction site. One of them captured someone firebombing his truck early Wednesday morning.
The truck owner, Leroy Morgan, says the person responsible thew a hammer through the truck window, took a gas can out of the back of the truck, lit it on fire and threw it inside the cab. Morgan grabbed a water hose and used fire extinguishers to eventually put out the fire. It's upsetting for the owner who commutes each week from Southern California.
"It was a great truck. It's too bad. I mean, I drive it back and forth every Monday and every Friday when I go back home. This is a tremendous loss for me personally," Morgan said.
No one was injured. Arson investigators were able to recover the gas can, lighter, and hammer. They say it could take up to a month to process the evidence.
The owner says he has an idea who's responsible for the crime. In the last 10 days, he has had some issues with a man who lives nearby and workers on site have seen the man snooping around the area.
Santa Maria Fire, Cal Fire and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department all responded to the scene.
