The Central Coast is home to a new cancer treatment center, aimed at making patients feel more comfortable.
The Mission Hope Cancer Center opened Monday in Santa Maria. It is located on the Marian Regional Medical Center campus.
The center includes accommodations for patients families who want to be with them during the process.
Having this state-of-the-art center in Santa Maria means patients won't have to travel to bigger cities to get the latest and most comprehensive treatment for their cancers.
"We've been able to up the ante so to speak and have much better technology associated with this facility. Some of it is still coming on board, obviously; but that's going to be a huge impact, as well," said Dr. Robert Dichmann, founder and oncologist.
The building also includes a pain management center and several other features designed to make the patients stay a lot more pleasant.
Photos from a local artist are also featured throughout the center to give patients a more comfortable setting.
There's also an outdoor waiting area so patients, who don't feel like going through the hospital doors, can sit and relax before their appointments.
The grand opening ceremony will be held on April 25, at 3 pm.
