Doctors, patients and community members came together to celebrate a major achievement for Arroyo Grande Community Hospital.
The hospital's "Coastal Cancer Care and Diagnostic Center" recently earned accreditation as a community hospital cancer program.
It is the only cancer program in San Luis Obispo County to be awarded the honor.
A celebration ceremony was held Wednesday at the Center's Pismo Beach campus
Cancer Survivor Maureen Clancy was on hand for the event to share her story and why the center is so important.
"Being an ovarian cancer survivor, the likelihood of me needing to be treated again is greater than less," said Clancy. "I feel comfortable in knowing that this is here now and I'm in good hands."
The center opened its doors in June of 2008 as a one-stop care center for cancer patients.
