Brady Candaele scored two goals within two minutes of each other in the second half to deliver a 3-2 victory for the San Luis Obispo girls soccer team on Thursday over Santa Ynez.
The Tigers entered the game ranked 4th in CIF's Division 3 this week, while Santa Ynez was tabbed 5th in Division 5. SLO improved to 3-1, while the Pirates fell to 2-1-1.
The Pirates struck first when Riley Smith, a sophomore, squirted the ball by the Tigers goalie less than two minutes into the second half to make it 1-0 Santa Ynez. The Tigers' Darla Berkefeld outsprinted a Pirate defender to the ball inside the box and fired home the equalizer in the 54th minute to tie it 1-1.
Candaele scored her first goal in the 66th minute on a cross inside the box from Kelsey Harper to make it 2-1 Tigers. She added another score two minutes later off a corner kick with what proved to be the diffference maker.
Tayler Beaird scored just 36 seconds later for Santa Ynez to cut the deficit to 3-2, but the Pirates could not get another goal in the final 12 minutes.
Also on Thursday, the Arroyo Grande girls blanked Cabrillo 7-0 in another non-league battle of ranked teams.
Nipomo boys soccer team blanked Mission Prep 5-0.
