The recent passing of Steve Jobs has given a former Cuesta College student some recognition for a smartphone app he recently developed.
iPhone app developer Marty Ulrich came up with the Free Candle, or Visicandle app, for Poets Road which is a Los Angeles-based firm.
The app was released back in April, but demand went up after the passing of Apple's co-founder and CEO. People were seen holding up their phones with one of the ten candle designs following the announcement that Jobs had died.
Ulrich says the app has been downloaded more than a million times.
Ulrich is currently studying computer science at Oregon State University. He learned how to create apps right here on the Central Coast by taking a course at Cuesta College.
