A bill just introduced to Congress would help federal firefighters, who get sick because of their job, receive disability benefits.
Firefighters who work for local fire departments automatically get disability coverage for illnesses like lung disease or certain cancers linked to the hazards of firefighting, but federal fire crews must prove their disease was caused by a firefighting incident.
The Federal Firefighters Fairness Act was introduced by Representative Lois Capps and Republican Representative Patrick Meehan.
