Congresswoman Lois Capps is holding a meeting Monday with federal, state, and local law enforcement officials to talk about panga boat smuggling along the Central Coast.
Capps and law enforcement officials from Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura Counties will talk about maritime border security, panga deterrence, and what resources authorities need to stop illegal activity.
There has been an increase in the number of panga boats delivering drugs to the Central and South Coast in the last two years.
Most have been used to transport large amounts of marijuana.
Investigators from both San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties have seized thousands of pounds in separate seizures within the last year.
Last year, the Coast Guard seized 81,000 pounds of marijuana along the California coast.
