Car crashes into building in Los Alamos; residents evacuated

A car crashed into a building in Santa Barbara County Sunday night, forcing some Los Alamos residents out of their homes.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department says it happened just before 6:00 p.m.

Someone driving a Toyota Avalon lost control and crashed into the Collins Market and gas station in Los Alamos.

Firefighters say the crash caused major structural damage to the building.

The building inspector red tagged the building, deeming it not safe for anyone to be inside.

Residents in the apartment above the building were also evacuated.

No one can go back into the building until an inspector says it is safe.
