Caren Ray was sworn in as the new San Luis Obispo County Fourth District Supervisor on Tuesday.
More than 200 people came out to wish her the best of luck in her new position. She addressed the crowd after taking her seat, first offering her condolences to the family of late Supervisor Paul Teixiera.
Ray is a former Arroyo Grande City Council member. She has also taught modern history at Santa Maria High School for nearly two decades.
Ray's term runs until the end of next year. The Fourth District covers the southern-most part of San Luis Obispo County, including Arroyo Grande, Nipomo and Oceano.
