Carjacker leads police on dangerous chase after exchange of gunfire

(KPNX) A carjacking suspect remained hospitalized Wednesday after crashing a stolen vehicle during a police chase Tuesday night, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Officer James Holmes said police will release the identity of the 22-year-old man after he leaves the hospital and is taken to jail.

Officers responded to a call of a forgery in progress at a check-cashing business on Bell Road in north Phoenix on Tuesday evening. They confronted a man and had him sit down, but he got up and ran from the business.

After fleeing the business, the armed man tried to carjack a truck in a neighboring parking lot, but the driver fled the area, police said.
