(KWWL) The semi driver who was able to escape his fiery truck after a dramatic crash in Waterloo, Iowa is now being cited for failure to maintain control of his vehicle.
Police say the driver, Victor Ivantsov, of St. Louis was driving in the southbound lane of Highway 218 when it crashed on the bridge above Washington Street around midnight Thursday.
The cab caught fire and one of the trailers was left partially dangling off the bridge. The driver jumped several feet to safety before the trailer fell to Washington Street, catching fire again.
Authorities say Ivantsov was carrying magnesium and that prompted the explosion.
Waterloo police say slick roads are to blame for the collision.
