Caught On Cam: Spandex Bandit

(WESH) It was 21-year-old Brittney Ballinger's second time closing up the Subway store she works at in Holly Hill, Florida.

Just minutes before closing time Sunday night, she endured some terrifying moments.

An armed robber, clad in spandex from head to toe, burst in and attacked her, hitting her in the head with his gun.

"I heard the door go off, and I was like, 'Welcome to Subway,'" she recounted.

Her corporate greeting was wasted on the robber, who stormed the store, jumped the counter and manhandled her.

"He came up behind me and pushed me, and I hit the ground. I got up, went to go turn around and say, 'What the hell?' and that's when I got hit with the gun," she said.

Surveillance from two different angles shows the violence. He pushed, hit and threw Ballinger in his hunt for all the money from the register and then the drop box.

Ballinger said she has no idea what he said.

"I don't really remember. All I know was I took a beating, and I gave him the money and he was gone," she said.

The robber stepped on Ballinger to make his escape. She collapsed, in tears and shaking, and then called 911.

"I've just been robbed, um, at the Subway," she told the dispatcher. "He told me to open the cash register, and I opened the cash register."

An employee from a neighboring business briefly chased the suspect and got a glimpse as he pulled off his mask to run.

Authorities describe the suspect as a black male, about 6 feet tall with an athletic build.

They are hoping someone will recognize the spandex suit or the man's mannerisms.
