San Luis Obispo County Parks closed a portion of the Cayucos Pier on Friday because of safety concerns.
Parks officials say one section of the pier deck is being supported by just one piling, when it should be supported by four.
A chain link fence has been installed halfway to the end of the pier to prevent people from walking in that area.
Parks officials say the County plans to have an engineering firm assess the entire pier and provide information on its stability.
It's estimated the cost to restore the pier will be more than $2.1 million.
A coalition of local businesses, non-profit groups and citizens is raising funds to assist in the pier restoration. Click here for more information.
