Depression, anxiety, thoughts of suicide: These intense mental health problems plague millions of Americans. And a new report suggests these issues are more common that you might think.
The Centers for Disease Control released the largest report to date on the mental health of Americans. It shows about 50-percent of us are expected to receive some kind of psychiatric diagnosis during our lifetime, and as much as a quarter of the U.S. population is experiencing a mental health problem right now. "They can't function at work. They can't go to school. They can't do the things that are necessary to essentially cope or survive on a day-to-day basis, said Dr. Ileana Arias, Principal Deputy Director of CDC.
The CDC plans to release a report on childhood mental illnesses next year.
