Heal the Bay's annual study of the quality of California's beaches shows that beachgoers enjoyed good water quality this year.

In Santa Barbara County, 16 locations were monitored on a weekly basis from as far upcoast as Guadalupe Dunes and as far south as Carpinteria State Beach. Heal the Bay says summer dry weather quality in Santa Barbara County was very good. It says 15 of 16 locations received A or B grades for year-round dry weather. Gaviota Beach scored the lowest, with a C grade. Heal the Bay says Santa Barbara County has found creative ways to take care of its beaches despite the cut in state funding for beach monitoring. It says the County managed to find cash to ensure year-round monitoring through March 2011.

For San Luis Obispo County, 20 beaches were monitored for this year's report. Twenty beaches were monitored from as far north as Pico Ave. in San Simeon to Pismo State Beach.

The report finds that dry weather quality in San Luis Obispo County was excellent. It found 90 percent of the monitoring locations received A grades for year-round dry weather. Pismo Beach Pier scored the County's lowest, earning a C grade. Despite that low grade, it managed to avoid the distinction of being one of California's most polluted beaches this year.
