The Central Coast Cancer Challenge is still two months away but people in San Luis Obispo were gearing up for the big event with a pep rally Saturday.

Rain did not keep people from attending the kick-off party at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. The festivities included running and biking clinics, performances and a cooking demonstration.

This year's Cancer Challenge is also raising money for two local organizations that help children and adults affected by cancer.

"It's really all about just exercise, feeling good, living life, and supporting those who are on a journey, a very tough, tough journey," said Heather Hellman, the event director.

The Cancer Challenge is August 7 at Laguna Lake Park. To register or for more information just head to the Newslinks section of ksby.com.
