AUBURN, Ala. (AP) The Lee County coroner says a 19-year-old member of the Chadron State College football team in Nebraska has been killed in a highway accident in Auburn that seriously injured a teammate.
Coroner Bill Harris says Garrett Schlichtemeier, a freshman wide receiver from Ogallala, Neb., was pronounced dead from a head injury at East Alabama Medical Center on Monday after the Range Rover he and two teammates were riding in overturned.
Harris says the driver, 18-year-old Michael Madkins, 18, of Elk Grove, Calif., was seriously injured.
Harris says the other passenger, 18-year-old Tyler Perri of Covina, Calif., did not seek medical treatment.
Officials say the three were thought to be on their way to a spring break gathering when the accident occurred.
