The 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team at Camp Roberts is under new command for the first time in three years.
A change of command ceremony was held Friday at Camp Roberts. It included a pass and review of about 700 troops.
"There were separate flags for other units, and that's how they organized on the battlefield because it was much easier to see than it was to hear what was going on, and so that's where a lot of the symbolism and efforts come from," said Seth Goldberg, Deputy Commander.
Colonel Jeffrey Smiley took over leadership of the base from Colonel Mark Malanka.
During the past year, the 79th Infantry Brigade Combat team ranked number one in unit readiness among all Army National Guard units.
