Charges filed against driver who hit, killed teen in unmarked crosswalk

Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley announced Monday that charges have been filed against a driver involved in a deadly accident that killed a Santa Maria teen in June.

Dudley says the charges filed against Kelsi Lynn Sullivan, 21, from Santa Maria, include one count of vehicular manslaughter, which is a misdemeanor.

15-year-old Leticia Hernandez Sanchez was hit and killed June 29 while she was crossing the street at an unmarked crosswalk at Miller Street and Newlove Drive around 9:30 p.m.

Dudley says Sullivan was not believed to have be driving under the influence when she failed to yield the right of way to Sanchez in the unmarked crosswalk.

She is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 3.
