Morro Bay High graduate Jerome Long was waived by the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday. The move came on cut day, where NFL teams had to trim their rosters from 75 players to 53 to prepare for the start of the regular season.
The 6-5, 285 pound defensive lineman was a seventh round pick by the Chiefs in the 2012 NFL Draft out of San Diego State. Long earned Second Team All-Mountain West Conference honors his senior year. He started all 13 games and recorded 73 tackles, 5 sacks, forced one fumble and tallied 8 tackles for loss. He finished with 163 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss and 9 sacks in his Aztec career.
Long earned All-CIF football honors his senior year at Morro Bay High and won three individual Los Padres League wrestling titles.
