Research has found that you could get salmonella from a frog.
Researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention examined recent outbreaks of a specific strain of salmonella. They found many of the sick patients were children under the age of 10, who had recently played with a pet frog.
They found many of the children became sick after indirect exposure to the frogs. A third of the children were hospitalized a result of their illness.
Researchers say amphibians and reptiles should not be kept in homes with children under the age of five or people with immune system deficiencies.
