FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A chilling video confession by the defendant in a Fresno beating and dismemberment killing has been shown in a California courtroom.
The murder trial for 54-year-old Brian Waldron begins next month.
The videotaped confession, given voluntarily to police, was played in court on Monday to determine if it is accurate in case the prosecutor wants to show it to a jury.
The Fresno Bee says Waldron claims he beat 21-year-old Jonathan Taylor to death with a metal pipe, cut up the body in a bathtub and buried the remains near the Courtright Reservoir in 2008.
Waldron is charged with murder and mutilation of a corpse.
He has pleaded not guilty, saying he feared for his life when he killed Taylor.
