CHP asking for information on weekend crash that killed Los Osos woman

A Los Osos woman injured when her truck hit a tree near Avila Beach early Sunday morning has died, according to the California Highway Patrol, and the agency is now asking anyone who may have seen the collision to contact its office.

CHP says around 12:25 a.m., the 44-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was driving north on Avila Beach Drive, just south of San Luis Bay Drive.

When she was near Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort, her 1985 Chevrolet pickup truck left the road for unknown reasons, hitting a small tree before traveling down an embankment, hitting part of a telephone pole and then a larger tree.

The woman was pinned inside the truck and had to be removed using the jaws of life.

She was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center and then flown to a Fresno hospital where she died.

No one else was in the truck and no other vehicles were involved.

Anyone who saw the accident happen is asked to call the California Highway Patrol at (805) 593-3300.
