The California Highway Patrol says a man was arrested Sunday after crashing a stolen pickup truck into several cars, injuring at least three people.

CHP says around 3:20 p.m., an officer tried to stop 21-year-old Juan Benitez of Arroyo Grande on Highway 101 South near Nipomo.

They say Benitez sped away in a stolen truck, eventually exiting on Broadway in Santa Maria.

CHP says he sideswiped several cars before crashing head-on into a Mazda 626 on Donovan Road.

Three of the four people inside the car, all from Santa Maria, were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

The other 2-year-old passenger was not injured.

Benitez was arrested before being taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Charges against him are pending.
