The California Highway Patrol has identified the victim of a fatal motorcycling accident Sunday afternoon.
They say 49-year-old Fred Garrett Jr. of Lompoc died at a local hospital from injuries in the accident.
Garrett's passenger, 44-year-old Kari Cone, had minor injuries.
CHP officers say Garrett and Cone were driving southbound on Highway 227 at 35 miles per hour. They were in a group of motorcycles. Garrett lost control of his Honda motorcycle, and it overturned. Both Garrett and Cone were ejected onto the roadway and taken to a local hospital.
Officials say they don't know why Garrett lost control of his motorcycle, and the cause of the collision is under investigation. Both riders were wearing helmets.
