The 42-year-old man who crashed his car in Avila Beach Sunday night is in custody for DUI and hit and run.

The California Highway Patrol says Christopher Wiley crashed his car around 11:30 p.m. near Avila Beach Drive and northbound Highway 101. Some of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's bomb squad units happened to be in the area and went to check out what happened. CHP says that's when Wiley got out of his car and ran into a river bed, parallel to the highway.

He was eventually arrested after an Arroyo Grande Police K9 tracked him down. Wiley is being held at the San Luis Obispo County Jail.
