VENTURA, Calif. (AP) - A motorcyclist has been fatally shot after leading a California Highway Patrol officer on a chase north of Ventura.
The Ventura County Sheriff's office, which is investigating the shooting, said the chase began Saturday afternoon after the motorcyclist, who was spotted speeding on Pacific Coast Highway, refused to pull over for the officer.
Sheriff's spokesman Eric Buschow said the motorcyclist went over Highway 101 and onto a canyon road before crashing and going down an embankment. He told the Ventura County Star (http://bit.ly/X9WyA1) the shooting occurred at the end of the chase and the motorcyclist died at the scene.
The officer was not hurt.
No further details were released.
