The California Highway Patrol says alcohol played a role in the death of man in San Luis Obispo earlier this month. Investigators say 50-year-old Clayt Casey of San Luis Obispo was extremely intoxicated at the time of the collision.

They say Casey was driving his scooter on Los Ranchos Road on December 5. That's when they say he ran a red light and crossed into oncoming traffic on Highway 227. The driver of a pick-up truck wasn't able to stop in time and hit the scooter. Casey later died from head injuries.
