CHP still looking for a suspect in a major accident

California Highway Patrol officers are still looking for a suspect from Santa Maria involved in a major accident over the weekend. The incident took place on Saturday around 3:45 a.m. A 10-year-old girl from Anaheim died after she was ejected from a car, then hit by an oncoming car. CHP said Santa Maria resident Antonio Betancourt, 25, was driving his Honda Civic the wrong way on Highway 101, north of Clark Avenue. Betancourt, pictured in this copy of his I.D. card, allegedly sideswiped Francisco Jaime, who was traveling Northbound in a Mercedes. Jaime had a young girl, 10, in the passenger's seat, who was reportedly reclined and sleeping without a seat belt on.
When Jaime's vehicle was hit, his young passenger was ejected from the car into the southbound lanes. Almost immediatly, the young girl was struck by an oncoming car. She died on scene, and Jaime was transported to Marian Medical Center with major injuries. Then, another Santa Maria resident, Joseph Brown, 47, was riding his motorcycle southbound and struck the Mercedes, which had rolled into the southbound lanes. Brown was thrown from his bike and slid into the median. He suffered major injuries and was taken to Marian Medical Center. Betancourt is still on the run. Officers ask that you call police if you know his whereabouts.
