California Highway Patrol identified the person killed in a fatal crash near Los Alamos Wednesday afternoon.

A van carrying farm workers from Santa Maria crashed into a tree.

CHP says the driver, Mario Vasquez, 28, was driving at unsafe speeds when the mini-van collided head on into an oak tree on Foxen Canyon Road just north of Alisos Canyon Road.

Six passengers were injured in the crash and taken to near-by hospitals. One passenger, Benito Salazar, 30, was not wearing a seatbelt and died on scene.

Vasquez is not a U.S. Citizen and was an unlicensed driver. He was arrested and booked into the Santa Barbara County North Jail in Santa Maria. CHP says alcohol is not a factor in the collision and the crash is still under investigation.
