The Atascadero High softball team will face sanctions from the CIF Southern Section for playing with an ineligible student-athlete.
Assistant Principal Karen Donaghe says the school has learned the team must vacate all of its victories prior to last Thursday. That means rather than being 9-7 overall and 3-3 in Pac 7 League play, the defending league champion Greyhounds are 1-5 in Pac 7 games and 1-15 for the season.
Last week, the school reported a violation to CIF after an investigation showed a player on the team was ineligible. That player, who the school has not identified, was on the team's roster for the squad's first 14 games of the season.
School officials say their investigation showed the player, who transferred to the district prior to the season, provided a false address and did not live at the residence where the family said it moved to in the paperwork. The school immediately contacted CIF when officials learned the information.
Donaghe says it's unknown what sanctions, if any, the unidentified player will face.
