Six Central Coast high school teams will open the 2013 spring season ranked as the CIF Southern Section released its preseason coaches polls for baseball, softball and volleyball.
The Arroyo Grande boys volleyball team is ranked #8 in Division 2. The Eagles are coming off a 26-8 season that included the Pac 7 League title and second round berth in the CIF playoffs. Santa Barbara is ranked #3 in the division,w hile Dos Pueblos is #6.
The defending Los Padres League champion Nipomo softball team is ranked #2 in the Division 5 preseason coaches poll. The Titans are coming off a 19-10 season that saw the team make its first-ever CIF semifinal appearance. Penn recruit Courtney Cuzick returns for the Titans after a stellar junior season that included a .489 batting average and an 18-8 mark in the circle with 305 strikeouts and a 0.79 ERA.
Defending LPL co-champion Lompoc baseball is ranked #3 in the Division 5 preseason poll. The Braves are coming off a 22-7 campaign that included a berth in the CIF semifinals. Tyler Ornelas and Miguel Salas return to lead the Braves in 2013.
Santa Ynez baseball is ranked #9 in Division 5. The Pirates are fresh off a CIF quarterfinal appearance and a 22-7 campaign. Thomas Rowan and Hunter Totemeir are back to lead the Santa Ynez pitching staff.
In Division 7 baseball, Dunn Academy starts the season ranked #2. The Earwigs went 14-5 last season and made it to the CIF semifinals. Valley Christian Academy is ranked #9 in the division. The Lions went 12-10 last year.
