There's a tentative agreement between the City of San Luis Obispo and attorneys representing more than 30 people who were ticketed for sleeping in their cars on city streets.
The city council voted 4 to 1 to accept the settlement agreement after mediation and a closed door session on the matter.
Under the agreement, the city council will look for a new way to deal with people sleeping in their cars.
In the meantime, an emergency ordinance passed a few weeks ago will be enforced so that people will not be allowed to sleep in cars.
But the city must come up with a new way of dealing with the issue and complaints from neighbors by December 31, 2012.
The city prosecutor will dismiss all citations issued since the first of the year.
