City of Paso Robles appoints new Chief of Police

Paso Robles has a new Chief of Police.

After a competitive hiring process and a nationwide search, the Paso Robles City Council has appointed Robert Burton.

Burton has been with the Paso Robles Police Department for 17 years and has lived on the Central Coast for more than 40 years.

He has served as the Acting Chief of Police since March 2012 when the position opened after then Chief Lisa Solomon handed in her letter of resignation.

Solomon had faced accusations of sexual harassment of a former officer and a lawsuit over alleged traffic ticket quotas.

A formal swearing-in ceremony for Chief Burton is planned for July 2.
