The City of Pismo Beach filed a lawsuit against The Cliffs Resort so it can recover the money it paid to the family of an accident victim.
Tricia Rittger was hit-and-killed while crossing the street in front of The Cliffs in 2011.
She was the national sales manager at KSBY.
Rittger's family sued the City of Pismo Beach. The city settled in October by agreeing to pay $1.5 million to her family.
Pismo Beach's lawsuit claims that The Cliffs is liable because it didn't provide safe parking for customers and many people had to park in a lot across Shell Beach Road from the hotel.
Rittger parked there and was killed crossing the street on her way to The Cliffs.
The suit claims The Cliffs should have put up signs and a gate to keep customers out. The city is suing for the $1.5 million in damages it paid, plus attorney fees.
