The City of San Luis Obispo has announced its new fire chief.
Garret Olson has been chosen to replace Charlie Hines, who is retiring Sept. 10.
Olson has been the Deputy Fire Chief since August of last year.
During that time, City Manager Katie Lichtig says Olson has initiated development of the five-year strategic plan, implemented an online citizen feedback program, and helped Chief Hines establish the mission and values of the department.
Olson has 23 years of fire service experience and is a certified Executive Fire Officer through the National Fire Academy.
His starting salary is $150,722.
His first day as chief will be Sept. 12.
