City officials asking for donations to repair damaged Atascadero veterans memorial

The Mayor of Atascadero is asking for help repairing the Faces of Freedom Veterans Memorial that was damaged by a driver New Year's Day.

Mayor Tom O'Malley and the City Council hope people will donate money to repair the veteran's monument.

"We're going to have to replace some of the benches and fix the lights that were destroyed, and some of the bricks are cracked or destroyed," says retired Col. Bill Hatch, president of the Atascadero Veterans Memorial Foundation.

Officials are also hoping to add security features to protect future vandalism.

Donations can be mailed to the Atascadero Veterans Memorial Foundation at P.O. Box 1466, Atascadero, CA 93423.
