Clifford Chapman, who owns the Chapman Mansion Estate on the bluffs in Shell Beach with his partner Don Shidler, passed away in his sleep Friday morning.
Friends tell KSBY News Chapman was out mowing the lawn like he always did Thursday afternoon and was as energetic as usual. But when he didn't get up Friday morning, Shidler went to check on him and he had passed away. Chapman and Shidler have been together for nearly 50 years.
Chapman was born in Guadalupe and attended Cal Poly before going into the Navy. He started working as a janitor at Marshall's Jewelers in San Luis Obispo before eventually buying the business. He'd since sold the company and he and Shidler have been opening the doors to their estate to help causes that benefit the underserved and the arts in the county.
Chapman was 82 years old.
