Coastal Christian sweeps Coast for sole possession of first, improve to 18-0

Behind a dominant performance from Leslie Henry and company, the Coastal Christian girls volleyball team swept visiting Coast Union on Thursday to claim sole possession of first place in the Coast Valley League and avenge a loss in last year's CIF championship game.

The Conquerors won 25-11, 25-16 and 25-19 to improve to 6-0 in league play and 18-0 overall behind head coach Misty Sano. Coastal Christian's perfect season is even more remarkable considering the Conquerors have only six girls on their roster, which means they have no subs. They started the week ranked #5 in CIF's Division 5AA. Coast Union, which was ranked #3, fell to 8-7 overall and 5-1 in league matches.

Henry, an All-CIF first team selection last season, led Coastal Christian with 17 kills to go along with 17 kills. Bethany Young, a junior, finished with 8 kills and 13 digs. Isabelle Unger led the Conquerors with 21 digs and Koral Wright added 18 digs, while JoAnn Lindstaedt was credited with 28 assists.

The Broncos beat the Conquerors 3-1 last season in the Division 5A Championship game.
