(KCRA) Family, friends and neighbors of 8-year-old Leila Fowler gathered at the girl's former school on Tuesday to share their grief over her death.
More than 1,000 flocked to the vigil at Jenny Lind Elementary School.
A sign at the entrance to the campus reads "We will miss you Leila!"
For a second day, grief counselors were on campus helping Leila's classmates, teachers and friends cope with the crime that has rattled an entire community.
In the meantime, officials are investigating whether a man arrested in Placerville -- accused of trying to kidnap a baby -- is connected to Leila's killing in Calaveras County.
Jason Wayrynen on Tuesday was taken into custody from Placerville, which is 46 miles north of Valley Springs, and is charged with attempted kidnapping. Police say he tried to take a 15-month-old from his mother.
Again, Calaveras County officials are investigating the possibility that these incidents are connected, but it's not clear whether that's the case.
