Children who suffer a concussion may have symptoms that begin later and linger for weeks after an injury.
Researchers at Boston Children's Hospital followed more than 200 concussion patients for three months or until all their symptoms were gone. The most common problems immediately after a head injury were headache, dizziness and fatigue that usually faded within two weeks. However, many developed emotional side effects, like frustration and irritability, after the physical symptoms were gone.
Experts recommend keeping injured children out of school for a few days after a head injury to allow their bodies and minds to heal and rest.
