A convicted Santa Maria child molester died in prison over the weekend and his cellmate is considered a possible suspect, according to the King County District Attorney's Office.
Corcoran Prison officials said Thursday 67-year-old Gary Townsend Boyd's death is being investigated as a homicide.
He was unresponsive and appeared to have a head injury when he was found inside his cell on Saturday at the California Substance Abuse Treatment facility at the State Prison in Corcoran.
Townsend is serving a 72-year sentence for a 2008 conviction for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under fourteen.
His cellmate, 55-year-old Jack Edwin Denzer, is serving time a 25 -year-to-life term for first-degree life term for first-degree murder.
Denzer is being held in a segregation unit during the homicide investigation.
