KSBY is celebrating its 60th anniversary and counting down the top 60 local stories of the past 60 years.
Number 35 is the murder of 15-year old Dystiny Myers of Santa Maria.
Firefighters found her body beaten and burned near Santa Margarita in September of 2010.
Police arrested five people shortly after.
Four of them were convicted of first degree murder -- Ty Michael Hill, Cody Miller, and mother and son Rhonda Wisto and Frank York.
They were all sentenced to life in prison without parole.
The fifth suspect, Jason Greenwell, testified against Wisto and York in a deal that makes him eligible for parole in 15 years.
Albert Covarrubias, Jr. was shot and killed by a fellow Santa Maria police officer on January 28th, 2012.
That's number 34 on our list.
Police say Covarrubias fired his gun in an attempt to resist arrest.
He was accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year old female Police Explorer.
Two top police managers were fired in the wake of the shooting, even though the Santa Barbara County District Attorney found no evidence of criminal activity.
Our number 33 story happened on August 1st, 2009, when 20-year old Nicholas Bendle of Santa Maria killed a man using a hatchet.
Frederick Holgate, 69, was on his morning walk in Santa Maria when he died.
Bendle was declared legally insane at the time he committed the murder and was sentenced to a state mental health facility.
A memorable U.S. president takes the 32nd spot on our list.
President John F. Kennedy spent a little time on the Central Coast during his term.
He visited Vandenberg Air Force Base on March 22nd, 1962 to watch the launch of the Atlas 13D missile.
Kennedy also toured the base during his visit and accepted a silver badge to mark the launch.
At number 31, San Luis Obispo is deemed the "Happiest Town in America."
National Geographic first gave the city that title in November of 2010.
Author Dan Buettner pointed to SLO's surrounding green landscape, lack of drive-throughs and 16-foot sidewalks.
San Luis Obispo got further recognition on the January 26th, 2011 Oprah show.
Oprah sent actress Jenny McCarthy to the Central Coast to give the world an inside look at the happiest town in the nation.
