A bleak budget picture for Santa Barbara County will be discussed in raw detail Tuesday. The county is facing a nearly $40 million budget shortfall for its 2010-2011 fiscal year. Overall, county departments need to cut around $52 million, which works out to 392 jobs.

The greatest impacts could fall on the shoulders of public safety and health. Department leaders will go before the board and lay out how devastating an impact they would see if the county went ahead with its cuts.

The county blames the majority of its deficit on rising employee salaries as well as higher benefit and retirement costs.

We will have a complete look at this story tonight on KSBY News.
