The city of Lompoc could soon be partnering with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department to help with chores at its city jail.

County jail overcrowding has led to earlier releases and it's left a smaller pool of inmates to help at the Lompoc city jail. Santa Barbara County has offered to provide inmate workers for the Lompoc jail through the Sheriff's Work Alternative Program, also known as "SWAP." That would likely save the city money. The agreement is expected to be approved at tonight's Lompoc city council meeting.
