Heading into her final Pac-12 Conference Championships, Oregon senior Jordan Hasay continues to chase after her first career individual NCAA outdoor track title.
The Mission Prep graduate is featured on the cover of the current issue of Running Times magazine. It includes an in-depth article on trials and tribulations of Hasay's historic collegiate career. A 17-time All-American, Hasay is the most decorated runner in Oregon history.
Hasay will chase after her third career 1,500 and second 5,000 meters Pac-12 crowns this weekend at USC. The preliminary round for the 1,500 is on Saturday with the final for both events on Saturday. Jordan has run primarily the 10,000 meters event this season, but coaches want to make sure her legs stay fresh for the NCAA Championships.
Hasay has won three Pac-10/12 track titles in her career. She has won the 1,500 in 2011 (4:19.18) and 2012 (4:13.28) and won the 5,000 (16:24.10) two years ago. She ranks fourth in program history in the 1,500 at 4:10.28
The Oregon women are the four-time defending conference champions.
The Arroyo Grande native will compete in the 5,000 and 10K at the NCAA Regionals later this month in Austin, Texas. She'll try to qualify for the NCAA Division I Championships, which will take place on her home track at Oregon from June 5-8.
"I've been close many years. I've been second, third and so it's all just a matter of who kind of runs best that day. This year, it's really exciting because we actually have nationals at home in Eugene and it's my last time. So obviously the crowd is going to be really into it. So it'll be really fun," said Hasay.
Last month, Jordan ran the third fastest 10K time in NCAA history at 32:06.64. In just her second-ever 10K race, Hasay broke the school's 29 year old record and the Pac-12 record along the way.
