An early morning crash on Hwy. 46 East in Shandon forced drivers to detour and sent one man to the hospital.

It happened just before 5:15 a.m. Thursday.
California Highway Patrol officers say Soledad resident Domiro Ruiz, 34, was driving his Kia Spectra westbound on Hwy. 46, when he veered into oncoming traffic. Officers say he was fatigued.

A semi-truck driving eastbound tried to stop in time, but was unable to avoid hitting Ruiz.

CHP officers say Ruiz suffered major injuries and was transported to Twin Cities Hospital. KSBY tried checking up on Ruiz's condition, but was told he was never checked in.

The truck driver, Jason Rice, 33, of Corning, CA, suffered only minor injuries and told officers he would seek his own aid.

Hwy. 46 East was closed in both directions for a few hours, and traffic was diverted to Hwy. 41.
